Turn out the light
And what are you left with?
Open up my hands
And find out they're empty.
Press my face to the ground
I've gotta find a reason.
Just scratching around
For something to believe in
Something to believe in.

He was just a kid, a boy, and anyone off the street would promptly tell you he was just an average teenager. He wasn't a strong buffed out jock, he wasn't an overzealous intelligent nerd, and he most certainly wasn't a pretty popular rich kid. All this one kid seemed to having going for him, was his wit. His ability to think on his feet and come up with good plans or excuses. Take that away and he had nothing.

So why, he had to ask himself, was he in this situation? Surrounded by the American Army and giant extraterrestrial robots in a crowded city street, next to the prettiest girl in his town, fingers entwining with hers. Why was he, Sam Witwicky, being hunted down by an enraged faction of said aliens? His breaths came out in rushed pants as he watched two of the robots pick up a truck, using it as a shield. His eyes locked with the smaller of the two, it's blue optics pleaded with him to move back, and he began to stumble back, trusting him completely. It had saved his life so many times already, protecting him from the Decepticons and Sector Seven. Now it wanted to protect him once again from the F-22 jet in the sky. Something wasn't right with it, and Sam started backing into the soldiers as Bumblebee wished him to. The soldiers shifted in confusion before Captain Lennox suddenly shouted for everyone to move.

There was chaos, and Sam felt the wind knocked out of him, as an overwhelming heat filled the air and dirt and debris fell everywhere. He shifted pitifully on the ground, fingers scraping desperately, reaching out for something familiar. He found Mikaela's fingers and relaxed slightly as he tried to understand what had just happened. He lay several feet from where he had been standing only seconds ago. People were starting to scramble to their feet, but Sam's head buzzed in confusion as he tried to find those reassuring blue optics again. His ears strained, and he could hear the jet off in the distance, but a sudden shifting of debris drew him back to the street and he scrambled to his feet quickly.

His yellow guardian dragged himself out from under pieces of building, moaning in agony. Sam rushed to his side and felt his heart tear in two. His legs, oh god his legs. "Oh god, Bumblebee." The robotic alien continued to drag itself forward before seemingly giving up. "You have to get up! Come on! You can do it!" Bumblebee had tried, oh god he had tried, but it was obvious he wasn't going to get up. "RATCHET!" He screamed helplessly. This couldn't be happening, what was he going to do without the large yellow robot? A large explosion startled him and he turned red-rimmed eyes down the street to see another Decepticon coming. He collapsed onto the ground, watching his guardian struggle closer to him. "I won't leave you." He told the robot desperately.

Bumblebee let out another mechanical moan before picking up the Allspark that lay uselessly on the ground. He held it out to Sam who looked tearfully into the soothing blue optics. He weakly accepted the cube, but didn't leave. He couldn't leave. In this whole mess of a war, Bumblebee had been the only thing holding him together. Without Bumblebee he really didn't feel like there was much of a reason to push on. The robot gave a pleading look, Sam knew he just wanted him to get out of there safely with the cube, but he couldn't leave the yellow robot.

He vaguely heard explosions and someone shout out "IT'S MEGATRON!" but he didn't leave his friend. He wouldn't leave his friend, he couldn't! But Lennox had ran up to him and shoved a flare into his hands, informing him he had to get the Allspark to safety. He had tried to argue, explain he couldn't leave Bumblebee, but the captain had left no room for argument. "You're a soldier now."

Now he was running down the damaged streets, Ironhide and Ratchet watching his back as he put everything into running onward. He had to do this, if he didn't get the cube away from the Decepticons Bumblebee wouldn't stand a chance. It was chaotic; he wasn't even sure what was going on. There were explosions and screams everywhere and he was dodging large mechanical aliens left and right. He became painfully aware that now Megatron was chasing him, the evil tyrant himself. He could barely breath, every gasp painful, sweat, blood, and dirt dripping down his face, into his eyes and mouth. Still he ran, ran for Bumblebee. He had thundered up that staircase even though his chest was ready to explode, and now he was hiding from Megatron, behind a statue. Unfortunately there was no hiding from him.

"Is it fear or courage that drives you?" Sam shook, thinking it was both. He kept going because he feared what would happen to Bumblebee, and because he knew the robot had entrusted him to do this task. No matter how terrified he was he had to keep pushing forward. He had to keep going, for Bumblebee. He was the only thing left to believe in.
